Gene Street Flooding
In the spring of 2017, during a heavy period of rain, several houses in the 900 block of Gene Street developed a flooding issue. One home in particular was affected with water entering the house. I immediately instructed the city to clean out the culverts and ditches in front of the affected home which helped alleviate the problem. In August 2017 when Hurricane Harvey hit the Needville area, the 900 block of Gene Street was again inundated with flood waters with the same house receiving interior water damage. After careful assessment, I concluded the problem was due to the clogged ditches on Union Street, the next street over which diverted flood water to Gene Street. I had the Union Street ditches cleaned and dug out which permanently resolved the issue. I personally assisted the homeowners by removing water logged carpet and helping with the general clean up and repairs.
